HELMET BILL ALERT, WE NEED ALL BIKERS TO CALL!!!!
#1
This is a LEGISLATIVE ALERT from ABATE of Maryland

Senate Bill 766
Helmet Modification Bill

March 18, 2009

ABATE of Maryland would like to thank everyone who took the time to show their support for our freedom of choice Monday night at the Freedom Rally at the State House in Annapolis. The turnout was very good, even though Ma Nature threatened to pee on our parade...but the old lady held off!

The bad news is that the Red Light Bill has died in the House committee. ABATE will put out a statement on this bill soon. So now our main priority is the helmet bill.

Our Helmet Modification Bill is waiting in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee for a vote. NOW IS THE TIME TO HELP! We need everyone to contact the committee chairman and POLITELY request that he allow this bill to be voted on! All it takes is a few minutes out of your day to make the call, you will not speak to the senator, but to an aide. Politely request that Senator Frosh allow Senate Bill 766 to be voted on in his committee soon.
It has been many years since this committee chair has allowed this bill to be voted on, and now we must request "due process" to let this bill run its entitled course!

That is all that is needed.....but do two more things, please.....tell all your riding friends to do the same, then you pick up the phone the next day and do it again! Phone calls are tallied and are very effective. Contact information is below.

THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE ASAP...this week!
This is the best chance Maryland riders have had in many years to modify the helmet law to allow freedom of choice.
Please give a damn, make the call!
... But please be POLITE.

Office of the Chairman, Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee:
410-841-3623 or 301-858-3623

Senator Frosh's Office: 410-841-3124 or 301-858-3124

Thank you for your help.

Let's Make This Happen!

Reference: Maryland Senate Bill 766 - Vehicle Laws - Protective Headgear Requirements for Motorcycle Riders - Exceptions

If this bill is passed, the current law will be revised to make it legal to ride a motorcycle without a helmet if you are at least 21 years old and have either had your motorcycle license for at least two years or successfully completed a Motorcycle Safety Foundation approved motorcycle-rider course. The effect of this revision will then be reviewed in three years and adjustments made accordingly.

Please call the MD Senate to let them know that you support Sentate Bill 766 and want them to vote on it.
