Winslow: We are talking with Rob Johnston, one the organizers of the Eastern Shore Tractor Racing Championships and the Reason to Ride Bike Show and Games scheduled for May 19th and 20th in Bivalve, MD. Welcome to delmarvabikers.com Rob! I see that the event will benefit the West Side Community Center. Tell us about the Center and what they do.

Rob: The Westside Community Center is a non-profit, self-supporting organiztion open to people of all ages and interests. The Center provides recreation activities for the people in the community and places an emphasis on Neighbors helping Neighbors. We also provide a place for the local youth to hang-out in a safe and fun environment. With the help of parents and volunteers, the Center provides free or reduced cost youth programs every day after school and on weekends. No matter what kind of problems the children are faced with at home or at school, they always have a place where they can feel safe and have fun. The Center helps children achieve the skills necessary to function effectively in their personal and family lives as well as in the community.

Winslow: Thats pretty cool. Sounds like a great group to benefit. This whole tractor racing thing looks pretty cool. Im sure its something to see. Tell us some about it.

Rob: This is definately not your typical bike event. Besides the bikes, beer and entertainment there is the tractor racing and tractor pulls. This is the largest tractor racing event in America. Last year there were over 60 racers entered into the event. To them this is like Nascar. They travel around to areas and hold point races. Some of these tractors are unreal. They have stock, modified and super stock. The super stock tractors can get up to speeds close to 80mph. It is a thrill ride. They hold some local celebrity races and on Sunday they hold an open, stock only, cross country race. The tractor pullers also come from all over and compete in the pulling championship.

Winslow: This event will be held over two days. We got a chance to go down and check out the park, man, that is one gorgeous spot to hold an event!

Rob: It is a very nice park. We have plenty of room to expand in the years to come. The majority of the events are held in a field along Nanticoke Rd. This year there are a couple of children carnival rides coming along with some bounce houses, rock climbing wall and pony rides. So there is something for everyone.

Winslow: Tell us about the Bike Show and Games.

Rob: Saturday is the bike show. You can register between 10:00 and 12:00 and the judging is from 12:00 to 3:00. We have real nice plagues to be awarded to the top two in each catergory. Along with the plagues the 1st place winner gets a detail kit from Pauls Professional Products, valued at close to $70.00. Saturdays entertainment is DJ Wiggo from 11:00 till 2:00 and Barren Creek from 3:00 to 6:00. There will also be Redneck Horshoes in the Bike show area on Saturday and Sunday. For a small fee a team can enter and try and win a prize. Sunday is the Bike games. The games consist of the Slow Ride, Road Kill Clean-up and Keg push. They were a big hit last year. There are also silent and live auctions on both days with a lot of great bike gear. We also are selling raffle tickest for $10. Every half hour on Sunday a prize will be given away to one of the winners. Some of the prizes include, Harley Davidson Gift Certificates and Gift Packs, Obbey Tatto gift certificate, Arm or Cycle gift pack, Midnight Riders $200 tire Gift Certificate and Gift Certificates from Horner Honda $100 and Delmarva Power Sports. There is also $100 in cash to be given away. If any one would like to reserve a ticket to be picked up they can call the Center at 410-873-2993 and leave your name and number and you can pick them up at the event. We are only selling 300 tickets.

Winslow: Wow, you guys deffinately have alot gong on for the bikers and just about everyone! I cant wait for the show! Thanks for joining us, Rob. Delmarvabikers.com Sweet Emotion, East Coast Bikers Cruises and Myself will be onsite taking pics, showing off the new trailer from RacetrackOC and giving out our infamous stickers!
