Some more information on the proposed memorial from our good friend George Jackson:
Good evening, Steve,
The Mayor of Federalsburg (Mayor, Betty Ballas.) sent the e-mail that I'm forwarding today. It is about the hearing. I called and left a message asking her if I could forward it to you. She later left a voicemail for me saying that I could forward the e-mail to you for your web site. There will be another hearing next month, and one more hearing after that the following month.
Thank You, Steve.
George.

George,
Here is the results that we now have. I cannot give you the results of the Hearing until it is formally accepted into the record. I can give you the results of the "sign in" because that is not an official meeting activity. I have added a message at the bottom that can be printed if they choose.
Betty

Here are the results of the Sign In Sheet:
Total number of attendees who signed the sheet: 116
Total number of above persons who voted for the Memorial to be placed in the Triangle: 77
Total number of above persons who voted against the Memorial being placed in the Triangle: 16
Total number of above persons undecided: 2
Total number of above persons who did not respond to location question: 21
Total number of attendees who signed the sheet that are intown residents: 75
Total number of attendees who signed the sheet that are out of town residents: 41
We have not yet tabulated the above statistics for the 26 persons that spoke at the Hearing.
Each of us have the option of taking into consideration the opinions of just the people who reside within the corporate limits of Federalsburg, or not. I am taking into consideration all the people who spoke. I feel I can justify my position because I know that the majority of persons who attend our churches, civic clubs, fire company, etc; are people who do not reside within the corporate limits of Federalsburg. We are not an entity unto ourselves, we do not operate in a vacumn. If my house is on fire, I will not ask the fireman for his address before I let him turn the hose on.
Although I have been critized because I have been forthright in my opinion concerning honoring our servicemen and women with a Memorial in the Triangle, the Charter of The Town of Federalsburg gives me the "right of debate and vote" equal to those of the Councilpersons.
I want to thank all of those persons from your organization who took their time to come to Federalsburg when we celebrated the life of Manny Ruiz, and thank you for your prayers and thoughts as we are struggling through this attempt to honor ALL persons who have served.
Betty J. Ballas, Mayor

I received the follow news from George Jackson regarding the proposed War Memorial in Federalsburg commemorating Manual Manny Ruiz and all of the war heros from Federalsburg. Please help support George in his fight to honor the Eastern Shore's fallen heroes.
Good morning, Shelly, Steve, and Jeff:
Here is an e-mail that I received from Mrs. Ruiz back on February 5th. In the e-mail Mrs. Ruiz has the meeting at 7:30. The meeting (Hearing.) is actually at 7:00PM, on this coming Monday, March 3rd. Mrs. Ruiz's Son is the late US Navy Corpsman Manuel Manny Ruiz. US Navy Corpsman Manuel Manny Ruiz was killed on February 7, 2007 in a CH46 helicopter crash in Iraq. I asked the Mayor of Federalsburg while I was attending the last town meeting in February if I, a non resident, could speak at the hearing? The Mayor told me yes.
While I was at the last meeting that the town had I thought, it's hard to believe that 3 members of a town council would do a turn around on something this important. I hope that a lot of people show up in support of the memorial being completed. The 3 Federalsburg town council members have stopped the construction of the memorial in its tracks.

I AM LISA RUIZ MANUELS MOTHER. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TRYING TO HELP US. WE WILL NEED ALL YOUR SUPPORT ON MAR 3 TOWN MEETING AT 730. BECAUSE THE TOWN COUNCIL DOESN'T THINK WE HAVE THE MAJORITY OF THE TOWNS APPROVAL ON THIS MEMORIAL PROJECT. WE HAVE RAISED 16,000 PLUS, WITH ALL THE BUCKETS AND THE FUNDRAISER. I THINK THAT SHOWS TREMENDOUS SUPPORT. BUT I GUESS WE HAVE TO JUMP THROUGH THE COUNCILS HOOPS THAT THEY THROW US. ATTACHED YOU WILL FIND WHAT THE MEMORIAL WILL LOOK LIKE. THE WALLS BEHIND THE FIELD CROSS (GUN&BOOTS) WILL CONTAIN ALL THE NAMES OF THE KIA HEROES OF FEDERALSBURG FROM ALL THE WARS. ALSO ATTACHED IS THE ORIGINAL LETTER THAT WAS THE PROPOSAL. WE NOW HAVE A ARCATEC ENGINEER AND A PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTOR AND BRICK LAYOR WORKING WITH US. ALSO ATTACHED YOU WILL FIND A BRICK ORDER FORM YOU CAN GIVE TO ANYONE. THE BRICKS WILL SURROUND THE ENTIRE MEMORIAL. ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE DON'T HESATATE TO EMAIL OR CALL.
