I got my start working in a local bike shop, but I always wanted to do it right - So I started my own business. - Bill, Owner of Williamsburg Motorworks
This summer has been a truly great experience for me... Since starting this site, I tend to measure the time less in days passing by and more and more by the friends that I make. You learn over time how to recognize the truly awesome caring people within a minute or two. With Bill it took maybe all of 10 seconds.
This guy is VERY well known on the Delmarvabiker scene and beyond as one of the lesser know, less flashy, but truly awesome mechanics our area is blessed with. One of his secrets to success seems to be unwavering commitment to excellence in all he does... Weather its hearding a bunch of locals on a bike exodus to DC for Rolling Thunder, riding clean up for a local charity poker run or shooting the breeze with some buddies on a Saturday while teaching the art of motorcycle maintence, Bill is there and giving of his time and talents.
I had first heard of Bill from a good friend Norman who I work with. Williamsburg Motorworks is a unpretensious shop located in Williamsburg, MD just outside of Hurlock. The shop sells and maintains Quads and other recreational bikes as well as offering repairs and maintence on just about anything on 2, 4 or even 4 wheels! (Ok, I dont think they work on cars... *LOL*) They even offer a fully equipt bay with bike lift for rent if you are the type who likes to do it yourself! Knowing a little about mechanics and thier tools, this is deffinately a cool thing for Bill to offer!
The pics to the right here were taken one Saturday morning. I was scheduled into Cumberland for the ABATE event, but I couldnt resist the temptation to see what all the hubub was about in Williamsburg. Knowing what little I did of Bill, it interested me to see what they were up to... I arrived about 10am and was greeted by several friendly faces I have riden with a few times. John and Spanky were there, and before I knew it, The Amazing Spiderdan and a whole host of others stopped in to shoot the breeze and see what was happening. It was very much like the garages I remember from my youth... Lots of people hanging out, talking bikes, laughing, joking, trading war stories and always smiling. Nothing like the sterile mass production centers you see in some places...
Unfortunately, with all that was going on and my tight schedule, I was unable to really sit down with Bill and do a proper interview. I did get a good fell for what he is doing there and his do it right philosophy, and I can assure you all I wouldnt hesitate to let this man work on my ride. Look for another more complete interview in the near future. Bill and Williamsburg Motorworks are deffinately one of the shops to check out on delmarva! Especially on a Saturday if you dont have to rush off (Sorry Bill) and have time to truly enjoy this genuine peice of what makes Delmarva Great... Who knows, you might even get invited to join them on one of thier Saturday rides!
See ya on the Road! Steven Winslow
